Free Video Poker

The casino industry is a big thriving business because thousands of people flock to casinos all around the world to play their favorite games. Before the Internet became popular, those of us who enjoy playing free games were pretty much out of luck. The next time you go to a casino, look around to see if they have any video poker games you can play for free. I have never seen one. But on the Internet you have a ton of choices to play free video poker. However, even if you are a serious real money video poker player, there is a lot you can do to improve your game by playing the free video poker versions. You don't have to buy any expensive or clunky software in order to practice. It takes hundreds, if not thousands, of hours practicing the right strategy for any version of video poker in order to make the right decisions time after time. So instead of practicing on your hard earned dollars, you can now practice without spending a dime.

So, where should you play free video poker? I don't recommend any single place, or even a group of places. I have played at many, probably at least 40 or 50, and they are pretty much all the same for my purposes. The only things that are important to me is that they have the particular game I am interested in, which is usually Jacks or Better. Here are some tips for finding the right free video poker games for you.

  • Find a place that doesn't require an email address to play. (Unless you don't mind getting emails trying to get you to sign up to play for real money.)

  • Find a free video poker site that has the game you want to practice with the same pay table as you want to practice with. For example, if you usually play 8/5 Jacks or Better at the local casino, it won't do you as much good to play 9/6 for free. While the basic strategy is the same, to become a true professional you should practice on the exact same pay table as you play.

  • Find a site that has a pleasing video graphic interface and the option to turn the sounds off and on. Of course what is a pleasing background to me may not be to you.
  • If you want to learn strategies for more than one game, choose a free video poker site that has a wide range of games. There are even a few that let you play different pay tables for the different versions of the game.

  • When you get fatigued or tired of one game, switch to another one for a few minutes. This also offers a mental challenge because each game has a different strategy.

Of course if you don't care about proper strategy and just want to play to have fun, you also have to make a decision on where it is best to play. If this describes you, I recommend finding a free video poker site that has the most games. This way you can play a wide range of games without switching places to play. Some places have over 50 different free video poker games.

For playing Jacks or Better or Deuced Wild video poker machines I recommended Video Poker Classic - you can download it for free on Google Play.
